After Eastmoor closed as a community home, it was used as accommodation for Leeds University students, who left when a new campus opened in Headingley in 2003. Hi, has anyone got any information on the Leeds reformatory school at Adel-cum-eccup please? Albert James Mower was sent there sometime around 1891 and I would just like to know why he was there and for how long. His year of birth was 1876. The complex first opened in 1857 as   9 Apr 2021 Eastmoor school in Adel, Leeds, first opened in 1857 as the Leeds Reformatory for Boys, later becoming Eastmoor Approved School. 2nd or  8 Apr 2017 streets in the countryside near Adel were once part of a school that was originally a Victorian correctional facility, Eastmoor Reformatory.

One hopes the drab, dreary and debris-cluttered dentist office above was abandoned as early as possible. Dating back to the 1880s, Eastmoor Reformatory is Leeds’ very own ghost village. It’s a huge complex, on the outskirts of Adel, and features everything from a swimming pool to a church – all of it, of course, is now derelict. At its height, it was home to up to 160 naughty boys, but that number is now zero, as it shut down in 1972.

The Adel Reformatory was founded in 1857 by the Leeds Society for the Reformation of Juvenile Offenders, on a site deliberately chosen to be removed from the temptations of the city.
